Generators for sale in Red Deer

What is for sale, listed as it stands today.

These are the gas and diesel generators currently offered for purchase. The list is pulled from our inventory when the page loads, so a set that has been sold is no longer on it. Each card gives the output, voltage and fuel; open it for the complete specification and the badges showing whether that unit is also available on a rental or rent-to-own basis.

Already know the fuel? See natural gas generators for sale or diesel generators for sale. If condition matters more than fuel, used generators for sale groups the used and surplus sets, and generators by size puts the fleet in kW order. Load banks, engines and the rest of what we sell are under Equipment for sale.

Buying locally

The generator is across town. Go and look at it.

A listing tells you what a set is rated for. Standing next to it tells you how it has been kept. For a buyer in Red Deer or the towns around it, the yard is a short drive, so there is no reason to buy a set that is in stock on photographs alone.

Book a time when you enquire, and bring the person who will connect the unit if you can. Ten minutes in front of the nameplate with your electrician answers more than a week of emails about voltage and phase.

The NPI Series natural gas packages are designed, assembled and load tested in the same building, so for those units you are buying from the people who built them. The new vs. used generator buying guide explains what hours, overhauls and time in storage say about the rest of the stock.

What to check while you are in the yard

  • The hour meter, and the hours since the last overhaul if there has been one
  • A load bank run at something close to your working load
  • The nameplate voltage and phase, against your service panel
  • Fuel system, block heater and enclosure, for a set that will sit outside through winter
  • Whether the unit is straight from the build, new surplus, or has worked rental terms

Open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, at 77 Queensgate Crescent. Call ahead so the unit is ready to be seen.

Matching the set to the job

Questions to settle before you pick a size.

Central Alberta buyers range from shops in the city to farms, acreages and leases out in the county. The right generator depends less on the rating on the card than on these four answers about your site.

01

What it will start, not just what it will run

A grain dryer fan, a well pump or a compressor can draw several times its running current for a moment at start-up. Size for the largest motor starting while everything else is already on, or the set will stall at exactly the wrong moment.

02

In town or out on the land

Most buildings inside Red Deer have utility gas, which makes a gas set simple to fuel. Acreages, farms and leases around the county often do not, and a diesel set with its own tank is the practical answer there. The fuel line on each card tells you which a unit burns.

03

Single-phase or three-phase

Many rural services in Central Alberta are single-phase, while shops and commercial buildings tend to be three-phase at 208 V or 600 V. Check the service panel before you shortlist, because a phase or voltage mismatch is a bigger job than a size change.

04

Hours a year, not just kW

A standby set that runs a few hours a year and a set that carries a load every day are different purchases. Prime duty is rated lower than standby, and running hours decide how much the condition of a used unit matters to you.

The NexSource Power manufacturing floor in Red Deer
After it is yours

Serviced by the shop you bought it from.

A generator spends most of its life waiting, and the one test that matters is the day it has to start. Planned maintenance, oil sampling and load bank testing are available on an interval set by how hard your unit works, and field service answers around the clock.

For a Red Deer owner that support comes from Queensgate Crescent, not from a distributor in another province. Our article on why maintenance and local presence matter as much as the spec sheet makes the longer case. If the set is going in as backup for a building, read emergency standby generators for how standby systems are put together.

Permits and the connection

Connecting a generator permanently to a building is electrical work, and a natural gas set adds a gas line as well. Both are done by licensed contractors under permits. Inside city limits those come from the City of Red Deer; for a property in the county or a neighbouring town, your contractor will know which authority issues them. Involve them before you commit to a unit, because the transfer switch, the gas supply and where the set is allowed to sit often settle the size and fuel for you.

Not sure yet

Unsure of the load? Rent before you buy.

Owning pays off when the need is permanent and the size is known. When either is still an estimate, a rental term shows you what the site really draws. Our generator rentals in Red Deer go out from the same yard, and the guide to renting vs. buying an industrial generator sets out where one starts to cost more than the other.

Buying in Red Deer

Questions about buying a generator in Red Deer.

Where can I see the generators for sale in Red Deer?

At our yard at 77 Queensgate Crescent, in the Queens Industrial area. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Phone (403) 887-4567 before you come so the unit you want to see is accessible and someone who knows it is there to walk you through it.

Why is there no price on the listings?

Because the price belongs to one set, not to a model. Hours, condition, enclosure, controls and voltage all move it, so two 200 kW units may be priced nowhere near each other. Pick a listing or describe your load and we will send a written quote for that specific generator.

Can I watch the generator run before I buy it?

Ask for it. We keep load banks in our own fleet, so the set can carry a measured load while you watch instead of just idling. Mention it when you enquire so the shop can have the load bank connected before you arrive.

Do you install the generator at my property?

Installation is not part of what we quote here. A permanently connected generator is wired by a licensed electrical contractor under permits from the authority having jurisdiction, and for a property within Red Deer that means the City. Our part is helping you pick the right unit; the hook-up is your contractor's.

Who services the generator after I buy it?

We can. Planned maintenance, oil sampling and load bank testing are offered on a schedule that suits how the unit runs, and field service answers 24/7. For NPI Series packages, parts come from the shop in Red Deer that built them. Ask about a maintenance plan when you request the quote.

Should I rent instead?

If the load is not settled, or the need may only last a season, renting first is usually cheaper than owning the wrong set. A good share of the generators listed here can be rented too. Rent-to-own, where what you pay in rent counts against the price, is limited to listings showing the Rent to Own badge.

Looking at a generator in Red Deer?

Send us the listing you are interested in, or the load, voltage, phase and fuel at your site and whether the set is for standby or everyday power. We will tell you which unit fits, arrange a time to see it, and put the price in writing.
