Narrow it by fuel with natural gas generators for sale or diesel generators for sale, by condition with used generators for sale, or by output with generators by size. Engines, load banks and the rest of what we sell are under Equipment for sale.

Around the Peace Country

When buying beats renting in the Peace Country.

Most generator purchases around Grande Prairie start the same way: a load that was meant to be temporary has not gone away. These are the four we hear about most.

A lease or facility that will keep producing

Once a Montney well, compressor or plant load is known to stay, rental invoices start to look like a purchase paid in instalments. A gas set that burns the site's own gas, once the analysis clears it, can carry that load for years.

Oilfield production power →

A farm yard that dries grain every fall

Dryers, aeration fans and augers need three-phase power for a few hard weeks each harvest, on quarters where the utility service may not carry it. When the season comes round every year, a set of your own can be cheaper than renting one each fall.

Agriculture power →

A mill, shop or business that cannot stop

Sawmills, fabrication shops, cold storage and offices in Grande Prairie and Clairmont where an outage costs more than a generator does. A permanent standby set with a transfer switch picks the load up when the utility drops it.

Emergency & standby generators →

A camp with no grid to lean on

Forestry, pipeline and plant camps that run on generator power for season after season. Prime-rated sets, often with a second unit for the loads that cannot stop, and fuel storage sized to how often the trucks get in.

Remote camp power →
Before you pick a unit

Four things the site decides before the spec sheet does.

A kilowatt figure narrows the list. In the Peace Country, one of these usually settles which listing is the right one.

01

The gas analysis comes first

Lease gas in the Peace Country varies from one well to the next. Before you shortlist a gas set, get an analysis: H₂S, liquids and pressure decide the scrubber and regulation, and sometimes decide that diesel is the better buy.

02

The motor that starts last

A dryer fan, a compressor or a large pump starting while everything else runs draws several times its running current. Size for that moment, not for the total on a load list, or the set will stall on the busiest day of the year.

03

Thirty below, outside

A standby set that will not start in January has failed at its only job. NPI Series packages can be ordered with a winter package that adds a block heater and a speed-controlled fan. For any other listing, ask what that unit carries for the cold, and plan winter-grade fuel for a diesel set.

04

Owning the hours

A bought set needs its oil, filters and coolant kept up on schedule, and a prime-rated set reaches those intervals quickly. Ask for the parts list with the quote, and decide before delivery who will do the service and how often.

For the motor-starting arithmetic, the commercial generator sizing guide walks through it and the amperage calculator converts between kW and amps. For the fuel choice at larger outputs, see natural gas vs. diesel power generation.

How the sale works

Sold from Red Deer. Settled before it is loaded.

Each generator on this page leaves from our Red Deer shop. The useful time to ask questions is while it is still there, so put them in the enquiry rather than after the truck is booked.

Ask for the hours and condition to be written into the quote. Ask for the set to be run on a load bank before it ships, so you see it carry real load rather than idle; we sell and rent load banks, so the test can be part of the same conversation. Then agree how the unit travels and how it comes off the truck: whether there is a loader or picker on site, any road bans or lease-road limits at that time of year, and who will be there to receive it.

The new vs. used generator buying guide explains what hours and overhaul records say about a used set, and why maintenance matters as much as the spec sheet covers what to arrange for the years after delivery.

Permits in the Grande Prairie area

A permanently connected generator is electrical work, and a gas set adds gas-fitting. Both are done by your licensed contractors under permits from the authority having jurisdiction: the City of Grande Prairie inside city limits, and outside them the County of Grande Prairie, the Municipal District of Greenview or the municipality the property is in. Industrial leases add the operator's own requirements. Speak to your contractor early, because the transfer switch, fuel connection and pad clearances can narrow the choice of set.

Not sure yet

Unsure the load will stay? Rent a season, then decide.

A new well whose production is still unproven, a first harvest with a new dryer, a project that may run one winter or three: these are better rented until the answer is clear. Our generator rentals in Grande Prairie cover the rental side, and renting vs. buying an industrial generator sets out when owning starts to cost less.

Rent to own

These listings carry the rent-to-own offer. Rental payments go toward the price if you decide to keep the set:

Buying for the Peace Country

Questions about buying a generator for Grande Prairie.

Where are these generators sold from?

From NexSource Power in Red Deer, our one location. Grande Prairie, the county around it and the wider Peace Country are served from there: each set is prepared in the Red Deer shop and trucked north once the sale is agreed.

How is a generator priced for a Grande Prairie buyer?

Per unit, in writing. Two sets with the same kW rating can be priced well apart once hours, condition, voltage, enclosure and controls are counted, and transport to the site is quoted as its own line. Choose a listing, or send the load and the site location, and we will price that set. Call (403) 887-4567 to start.

Can a generator we buy run on gas from our own lease?

Often it can, and around Grande Prairie it is worth asking before anything else. Send the gas analysis: H₂S, heavier liquids and line pressure decide the inlet scrubber and regulation a gas set needs, and whether the lease gas suits it at all. If it does, the set stops depending on fuel deliveries.

What size generator does a grain dryer need?

It depends on the motors more than the running total. Send the nameplates for the dryer fans, augers and aeration fans, how each one is started, and which of them run together. The set has to carry the biggest motor starting while the rest are already running, and that figure usually decides the size.

Who installs the generator and pulls the permits?

Your licensed electrical contractor, plus a gas fitter for a gas set, under permits from the authority having jurisdiction. Inside Grande Prairie that is the City; outside it, the County of Grande Prairie, the Municipal District of Greenview or whichever municipality the property sits in. On an industrial lease, the operator's own rules apply too. We help you choose the generator; your contractors connect it.

Can I rent a generator first, or rent to own?

Yes. Much of the fleet can be rented or bought; a card with a rental badge is a set you can hire before deciding. Rent to own applies only to listings marked Rent to Own, where rental payments count toward the price if you keep the unit. Our Grande Prairie rental page covers the rental side.

Pricing a generator for a Peace Country site?

Send the listing you have in mind, or the load, the voltage, the fuel available and the gas analysis if there is one, with where the set will sit. We will match it to the stock and come back with a written price, or tell you plainly if nothing listed fits.
